Gerel
Simmons
24-year old guard Gerel Simmons (188-G-93) had a very impressive game in the last round for Verdirrojo and receives a Latinbasket.com Metro Player of the Week award for round 20.
He had the game-high 38 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Verdirrojo in his team's victory, helping them to beat Marne (#12, 4-12) 97-84. Verdirrojo is placed at 4th position in Uruguayan Ascenso. Verdirrojo is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 9-8 record. In the team's last game Simmons had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Verdirrojo's top player in his first season with the team. Lincoln Memorial University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Simmons is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.3ppg. Simmons is in league's top in and averages solid 51.7% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Trevante Drye (199-F-93) of . He is American forward in his first season at Stockolmo. In the last game Drye recorded impressive double-double of 23 points and 21 rebounds. Bad luck as Stockolmo lost that game 71-77. Stockolmo is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-11 record. Drye is a newcomer at Stockolmo and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Anthony Danridge (196-F-86) of league's leader Atenas. Danridge got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He was a key player of Atenas, leading his team to a 85-69 easy win against the lower-ranked Colon (#13, 4-14). Atenas confirms their top position in the standings. Danridge has a great season in Uruguay. After 17 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 28.2ppg (2nd best) and assists with 4.2apg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Paul Harrison (203-C-89) of Sayago - 23 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Octavio Medina (195-F-96) of Stockolmo - 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Mateo Pose (190-SG-95) of Atenas - 16 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Nicholas Waddell (200-C-89) of Miramar - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Federico Cholaquides) of Verdirrojo - 20 points and 15 rebounds
9. Hector Silva (192-F-90) of Capitol - 21 points and 6 rebounds
10. Tyronne McNeal (211-C-87) of Marne - 22 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

In 28 LUB games he recorded 9.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.5apg and 1.3spg last season.
