KIRIL WACHSMANN

Experienced Naturalized German Kiril Wachsmann (203-C-84) put on an amazing game in the last round for OLIMPIA and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 7.
The 34-year old center had a double-double of 21 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat Atenas (#9, 3-4) 89-77. Olimpia is placed at 8th position in Uruguayan LUB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Olimpia will need more victories to improve their 4-3 record. Wachsmann turned to be Olimpia's top player in his first season with the team. Iona College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Wachsmann is in league's top in rebounds (8th best: 11.0rpg) and averages solid 52.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was ) of Atenas. impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Atenas lost that game 77-89 to slightly higher-ranked Olimpia (#8, 4-3). This loss caused Atenas to drop to 9th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. is one of the most experienced players at Atenas and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#1). He also registered 9.0 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was Fernando Martinez (170-G-79, agency: Pro Sports) of GOES (#7). Martinez showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, six rebounds and eight assists in the last round. Despite Martinez's great performance Goes lost 82-83 to the higher-ranked Hebraica (#4, 4-2). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Goes needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 4 victories and 3 lost games. Martinez has a great season in Uruguay. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 6.0apg (2nd best). He also has FGP: 56.8% and 3PT: 48.1%.

Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Aguada (#3) and Malvin (#2). Malvin was smashed at home by 21 points 73-94 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Malvin. Aguada dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Malvin's 36. Forward Demian Alvarez (192-84, agency: Pro Sports)...   [read more]
