We bring you last week's top performances from Uruguayans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Leandro Garcia Morales

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international shooting guard Leandro Garcia Morales (186-80, agency: Pro Sports, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in Argentina). He could not help Instituto (5-3) in their last game. Despite Garcia Morales' very good performance the second-placed Instituto (5-3) was edged 77-74 at home by the second-ranked Comunicaciones in the Group B. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Garcia Morales also added 4 assists (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 29 minutes on the court. Garcia Morales has relatively good stats this year: 14.6ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.9apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 49.2%, 3FGP: 29.6% and FT: 82.9% in 11 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Italian and Uruguayan. Former Atletico Bigua starter played for the Uruguayan senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Bruno Fitipaldo (183-91, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain). Fitipaldo was the major contributor in Burgos' surprising victory against the fourth-ranked Unicaja Malaga (6-2) 88-79 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Saturday. He recorded 18 points. San Pablo Inmobiliaria Miraflores Burgos (3-5) is placed 13th in the Liga Endesa. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Fitipaldo averages: 8.9ppg, 1.3rpg, 4.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 44.0%, 3FGP: 44.1% and FT: 57.1%. He is in the roster of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #3. The Uruguayan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Jayson Granger (189-89, currently plays in Spain). He managed to help Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria in a victory against the seventh-ranked Valencia Basket (4-4) crushing them 77-56 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Granger recorded 5 points in 14 minutes. Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria (6-2) is placed third in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Granger's overall stats are: 6.3ppg, 2.7rpg, 5.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 47.6%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 81.8% in seven games. He is another player who holds two passports: Uruguayan and Italian. Worth to mention Granger played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Granger played for the Uruguayan national team one years ago.

   #4. Guard Juan Zanotta (185-95, currently plays in Chile) led Los Leones to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Universidad Catolica (0-10) crushing them 84-62 in the Chilean Liga Nacional in Sunday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 11 passes. Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue (7-3) is placed second in Conferencia Centro. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. It's Zanotta's first season with the team. Zanotta's total stats this year are: 9.1ppg, 2.0rpg and 4.6apg. He is also Uruguayan national team player.

   #5. International guard Diego Garcia (183-92, currently plays in Argentina) led Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos to a victory against the third-ranked Penarol (2-1) 84-78 in the Argentinian La Liga last Saturday. Garcia scored 11 points and added 5 assists in 28 minutes. Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos (1-7) is placed fifth in Group C. This year Garcia's total stats are: 5.0ppg, 1.9rpg and 3.0apg in 12 games. He plays currently for the Uruguayan national team.

   #6. Point guard Santiago Vidal (180-89, another player represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Ourense in their game against Magia Huesca (5-2) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in 27 minutes. But Ourense lost 74-79 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#3) Magia_Huesca. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Vidal has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 3.7rpg, 4.5apg and 1.2spg in six games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Uruguayan National Team roster.

   #7. Former international forward Maximiliano Sole (197-88, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Movistar Estudiantes Madrid B (4-3) 98-79 in a derby game in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. He recorded 10 points in only 11 minutes. Real Madrid II (7-1) is placed second in Group B. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Sole has averaged so far 4.8ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.1apg in eight games. He used to play for the Uruguayan national team three years ago.

   #8. Small forward Rodrigo Deus (196-97, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Cazorla (3-3) in their game against Multiopticas Baza (4-2) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). He scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. Cazorla (#6) was edged 84-81 in Alicante by the higher-ranked (#3) Multiopticas Baza in the Group D-A. Deus has averaged so far 4.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.3apg in six games. He used to play for the Uruguayan U18 national team back in 2014.

   #9. Former international small forward Mauricio Aguiar (199-83, another player represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Brazil) couldn't help Corinthians (14-2) in their last game on Friday. Despite Aguiar's good performance the league leader Corinthians was defeated 86-71 in Rio de Janeiro by the lower-ranked Botafogo F.R. (#5). He was the second best scorer with 11 points. Aguiar has averaged so far 9.4ppg and 1.4rpg. He used to play for the Uruguayan national team two years ago.

   #10. Forward Matias Guerra (201-92, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Palma II (1-6) in their game against Alfinden (3-5) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Guerra recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. Palma II (#13) lost 76-82 in Zaragoza to the higher-ranked (#12) Alfinden in the Group C-B. It was Palma II's third consecutive loss in a row. Guerra has averaged so far 9.3ppg and 5.9rpg in seven games. He is a former U18 international player as eight years ago he still played for the Uruguayan national team.


The list of other players, who all have Uruguayan passport but never been selected to any of Uruguayan national teams:

   #1. Martin Perdomo (185-G-95, currently plays in Chile) could not help CD Castro (6-4) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Perdomo's very good performance CD Castro was crushed 96-68 on the road by the lower-ranked Aleman (#5) in the Conferencia Sur. He was the second best scorer with 23 points. This season Perdomo has relatively solid stats: 14.4ppg, 4.6rpg, 5.0apg and 1.1spg.

   #2. Bruno Ingratta (200-F/C-95, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Independiente's victory against the sixth-ranked Obera TC (1-5) 81-70 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) last Saturday. Ingratta scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Independiente BBC de Santiago del Estero (4-3) is placed third in North - North group. Ingratta has averaged so far 8.9ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.6apg.

   #3. Agustin Zuvich (201-F/C-95, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help the league outsider Gimnasia LP in their game against CA Platense (5-2) in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division). He scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. Gimnasia LP (#8) was crushed 88-65 at home by the leading CA Platense in the South - C.South group. So far Gimnasia LP lost all five games in the Regular Season. This year Zuvich has relatively solid stats: 12.4ppg and 8.4rpg in five games he played so far.

   #4. Facundo Escobar (196-F-95, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to Petrolero's victory against the third-ranked Atenas (3-3) 102-88 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) in Monday night's game. He scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Petrolero de Plaza Huincul (2-3) is placed fifth in South - South group. Escobar has averaged so far 5.6ppg and 3.4rpg.

   #5. Marcelo Nessi (188-G-94, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Liceo Frances (2-5) in their game against Gran Canaria II (7-1) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Nessi scored 7 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Liceo Frances (#13) was crushed 96-69 in Las Palmas by the leading Gran Canaria II in the Group B. Nessi has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 3.1rpg, 2.4apg and 1.3spg.

RICK JACKSON American Forward Rick Jackson (206-F-89) had an amazing evening in the last round for Goes, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 6 (Second Stage). The 29-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds, while his team beat Olimpia (3-3) 79-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams.
