Jayson Granger selected the top Uruguayan playing abroad in last week's games - Dec 23, 2018

We bring you last week's top performances from Uruguayans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Jayson Granger (189-89, currently plays in Euroleague). Granger led his Spanish team Baskonia to a victory against the closely-ranked Gran Canaria (5-9) 84-71 in the Euroleague in Tuesday night's game. He recorded 15 points in 26 minutes on the court. Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria (6-8) is placed tenth in the Euroleague. Granger's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Granger averages: 7.2ppg, 1.6rpg, 2.4apg, 2FGP: 33.3%, 3FGP: 40.5% and FT: 64.3% in 12 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Uruguayan and Italian. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Granger played for the Uruguayan senior national team one years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Bruno Fitipaldo (183-91, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain). He led Burgos to a victory over the closely-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (5-8) 89-80 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Saturday. Fitipaldo was MVP of the game. He recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. San Pablo Inmobiliaria Miraflores Burgos (5-8) is placed 13th in the Liga Endesa. Fitipaldo's overall stats this season are: 8.5ppg, 1.7rpg, 3.8apg, 2FGP: 42.4%, 3FGP: 41.1% and FT: 82.4%. He is in the roster of the Uruguayan senior national team.

   #3. The Uruguayan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Mathias Calfani (204-92, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). Calfani could not help San Lorenzo (7-1) to beat Quimsa (4-4). He recorded 9 points in 22 minutes. But the first-placed San Lorenzo (7-1) lost 70-76 at home to the lower-ranked (#3) Quimsa in the Group C. This year Calfani's overall stats are: 9.7ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.4apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 58.5%(31-53) and FT: 68.6% in 12 games. He is also a member of the Uruguayan senior national team.

Point guard Santiago Vidal (180-89, another player represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Ourense's victory against the closely-ranked Caceres Basket (2-9) 85-73 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Wednesday night's game. Vidal scored 9 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 7 assists and stole 3 balls. Rio Ourense Termal (7-7) is placed tenth in the LEB Gold. It's Vidal's first season with the team. His total stats this year are: 8.0ppg, 4.2rpg, 5.4apg and 1.3spg. Vidal is also Uruguayan national team player.

Former international forward Maximiliano Sole (197-88, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Real Madrid II to win against the fourth-ranked Alcobendas (9-4) crushing them 93-72 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Thursday night. Sole scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Real Madrid II (11-2) is placed second in Group B. Sole's total stats this season are: 4.7ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.5apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Uruguayan and Greek. Sole used to play for the Uruguayan national team three years ago.

Forward Matias Guerra (201-92, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Palma II's victory against the ninth-ranked SESE (5-7) 64-58 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 12 rebounds. Guerra also added 3 assists in 29 minutes. Palma Air Europa II (5-7) is placed tenth in Group C-B. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Guerra has relatively good stats this year: 10.5ppg and 7.2rpg in 12 games. He is a former U18 international player as he played for the Uruguayan team eight years ago.

   #7. International point guard Luciano Parodi (182-94, currently plays in Brazil) was the major contributor in Corinthians' victory against one of league's weakest teams Paschoalotto/Bauru (4-9) 87-83 in the Brazilian NBB last Saturday. Parodi recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and making 12 passes. He also added 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (3-7) is placed fourth in the NBB. Parodi has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 6.5rpg, 9.0apg and 2.0spg. Parodi is also Uruguayan national team player.

   #8. Small forward Rodrigo Deus (196-97, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Cazorla in their game against Andujar (7-5) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). He recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 15 minutes. Cazorla (#6) lost 72-77 on their home court in Cazorla to the higher-ranked (#3) Andujar in the Group D-A. This year Deus' total stats are: 3.6ppg and 3.4rpg in 11 games. He used to play for the Uruguayan U18 national team back in 2014.

One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Uruguayan passport:

   #1. Agustin Zuvich (201-F/C-95, currently plays in Argentina) led Gimnasia LP to a victory against the fifth-ranked Centro Espanol Plottier (6-10) 88-82 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) last Monday. He recorded 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in 35 minutes. Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata (5-11) is placed eighth in South - C.South group. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Zuvich has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in 16 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Argentinian and Uruguayan.

Goes Montevideo (LUB) signed 30-year old American forward Rick Jackson (206-107kg-89, college: Syracuse). It is actually his comeback to Montevideo as he has played here before. Jackson played last season at Quilmes Mar del Plata in Argentinian La Liga. In 11 games he had 12.2ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.5apg and 1.3bpg. Jackson also played for Goes that season where in 21 LUB games he recorded very impressive stats: 16.1ppg, 10.2rpg, 2.2apg and 2.2bpg. Esteban Batista's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Uruguayans playing currently abroad: - 3 days ago
We bring you last week's top performances from Uruguayans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an experienced international center Esteban Batista (208-83, agency: Duran International). He could not help Instituto (32-7) in their last game. Despite Batista's good performance the league leader Instituto was edged 71-69 on the road by the leading San Lorenzo.    [read more]

Harrison's double-double lands him Metropolitan Interperformances Player of the Week award - 3 days ago
PAUL HARRISON 29-year old center Paul Harrison (203-C-89) had a great game in the last round for league's best team Larre Borges and receives a Interperformances Metropolitan Player of the Week award for round 4. He had a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds, while his team beat Colon (#11, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 84-76.
