Metropolitan newcomer Penarol strengthened their roster with addition of 26-year old Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (201-100kg-93). He played in the summer at El Million in TBS league in Dominican Republic. In 9 games he recorded very impressive stats: 19.2ppg, 10.3rpg and 2.6apg. Guerrero helped them to make it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team. Great season indeed as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. He also played for Gregorio Urbano Gilbert (Santiago League) in Dominican Rep. league that season where in 21 Santiago League games he averaged remarkable 28.1ppg, 10.1rpg, 2.0apg and 2.6bpg. A very good season in his career as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. Forward of the Year and voted to 1st Team and also here League Player of the Week (3 times).
Among other achievements Guerrero won Dominican Rep. LNB championship title in 2016. He received also Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan LPB Defensive Player of the Year award in 2017.
Guerrero represented Dominican Republic at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) last year. His team got to the Semifinals and his stats at that event were 5 games: 8.6ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.2spg, FGP: 51.4%, 3PT: 25.0%, FT: 66.7%.
Guerrero is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Chile (Universidad de Concepcion), Uruguay (Cordon), Venezuela (Toros) and Dominican Republic (Sameji, Parque Hostos, San Sebastian and Leones de Santo Domingo).
The scouts decsribe him following way: It has a good touch of shot, and good subsequent movements. A very coordinated forward, able to play in positions 4 and 3 can also defend the players of the position 5, strong player and very good shooter with a good range.
