POSTED BY: Chris Mammides
In 2010 Tulsa 66ers selected him as fourth overall pick in D-League draft. The former St. Francis University (PA) staris in his tenth season in pro basketball. Among other achievements Sweetney played in the final of Venezuelan LPB in 2017. He received also Eurobasket.com All-Swiss LNA 3rd Team award back in 2014. Sweetney is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to thirteen different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). Sweetney has played previously professionally in Belgium (Spirou Charleroi and Liege Basket), Canada (Highlanders), France (Aix Maurienne), Iceland, Japan (Akita Happinets), Latvia (Barons Riga), NBA (Denver Nuggets), Switzerland (Neuchatel, Lugano Tigers and Monthey), Venezuela (Marinos), Dominican Republic (Huracanes del Atlantico), Mexico (Halcones Rojos), The Basketball Tournament (HBC Sicklerville) and NBA G League (Capital City Go-Go). His game is described as: Really athletic player who plays longer than his frame...Can play the No. 2 or No. 3 position, but his naturally position is the SG because of his athleticism and strength...Explosive around the basket as he is an excellent leaper...Possesses long arms that make him a tremendous defender...Sweetney based upon his production should be considered an NBA prospect. He has good size and has the ability to play multiple positions. This leads us to believe that Devin can flourish in any professional system offensively or defensively. He is a high IQ guy, versatile, athletic and would be a welcomed addition to any professional organization. Devin has the ability to take over games. Sweetney provided senior leadership on a youthful Saint Francis squad that entered the year with nine newcomers on its roster. He heads into the Northeast Conference playoffs ranked fifth in the league in scoring (16.7 pg), sixth in rebounding (7.4 rpg), fourth in free throw percentage (.824), and fifth in double-doubles (five). Sweetney is just three rebounds shy of joining Maurice Stokes and Sandy Williams as the only players in program history to reach 1,500 points and 750 rebounds during their collegiate careers. He is 24th on the NEC career rebounding list (747) and has racked up 1,508 career points. Sweetney was a two-time Choice Hotels NEC Player-of-the-Week this season...Devin Sweetney held the important leadership role he obtained in his freshman year. became the 38th person in school history to enter the 1,000 Point Club. finished the season with 1,056 career points. is currently in the position to become one of seven players to score 1,300 career points while pulling down 650 rebounds in program history. ranked in several Northeast Conference Top 10 categories. received the Saint Francis Most Valuable Player Award in 2008-09.
