Metropolitan Round 17: L.Borges are defeated by Danubio in a derby game- September 18, 2021

25 de Agosto - Cordon 88-97 Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Montevideo: Cordon (#10) and 25 de Agosto (#11). 25 de Agosto was defeated at home 88-97 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Cordon made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Octavio Medina (195-96) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Diego Alvarez (180-90) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Cordon's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Paul Harrison (204-89, college: NGU) produced 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Lucas Capalbo (175-0, college: Odessa JC) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cordon (5-6) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with U.Atletica. 25 de Agosto lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with seven games lost. Colon dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Verdirrojo's 34. They outrebounded Verdirrojo 42-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was international Gianfranco Espindola (196-99) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Martin Trelles (187-96) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Colon players scored in double figures. The former international forward Martin Aguilera (195-87) produced 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Andres Dotti (180-93) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Colon moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Stockolmo and Danubio. Loser Verdirrojo keeps the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Tabare. Danubio (6-5) won against visiting L.Borges (7-4) 93-83. Danubio made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Argentinian forward Martin Chervo (200-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and forward Santiago Fernandez (190-0) chipped in 17 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Danubio's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Ricardo Glenn (203-90, college: USC Upstate) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eleven shots !!!) and the former international point guard Mauro Zubiaurre (189-94) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Danubio have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Stockolmo and Colon. L.Borges at the other side dropped to the third position with four games lost. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Miramar. Sayago players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (206-93, college: UW-Parkside) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side and international power forward Nahuel Lemos (205-99) accounted for 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Sayago's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Sebastian Ottonello (195-97) came up with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Claudio Charquero (206-77) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Miramar in the defeat. Four Miramar players scored in double figures. Sayago have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Miramar at the other side stay at the bottom place with eight games lost.
