Robert Whitfield's triple-double lands him Metropolitan (Second Stage) Player of the Week award- September 5, 2023
The 26-year old guard recorded a triple-double of 28 points adding also seventeen rebounds and twelve assists, while his team edged out Stockolmo (#11, 10-11) 84-82. Verdirrojo maintains the 5th position in Uruguayan Metropolitan. Verdirrojo is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. But it was their 14th lost game this season out of 21 games. In the team's last game Whitfield had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 12 attempts. He turned to be Verdirrojo's top player in his first season with the team. University of Missouri - Kansas City graduate has very impressive stats this year. Whitfield is in league's top in points (5th best: 18.4ppg) and assists (4th best: 5.8apg). The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Panamanian point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-PG-1989, agency: Pro Sports) of O.Mundial. Gaskins impressed basketball fans with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Of course O.Mundial cruised to a 96-88 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Miramar (#16, 4-17). This victory allowed O.Mundial to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 7-14 record. Gaskins is a newcomer at O.Mundial and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. The third best performed player last round was Argentinian Gonzalo Torres (201-F/C-1994) of Miramar (#16). Torres scored 27 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). Despite Torres' great performance Miramar lost 88-96 to slightly higher-ranked O.Mundial (#14, 7-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Miramar can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-17 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Torres has individually a great season in Uruguay. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.3rpg (4th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Alfonso Arrillaga (195-F/C-1996) of Verdirrojo - 27 points and 4 rebounds 5. Desmond Holloway (194-SF-1990) of 25 de Agosto - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Tirrell Brown (198-PF-1993) of 25 de Agosto - 28 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Facundo Terra (185-G-1998) of Stockolmo - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists 8. Miles Bowman Jr. (198-F-1993) of U.Atletica - 14 points and 18 rebounds 9. Santiago Serna (203-F/C-2001) of O.Mundial - 15 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Rodrigo Cardozo (191-PF-1992) of 25 de Agosto - 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
