Liga de Ascenso Round 2 (Second Stage): Larranaga defeat Lagomar in the closest game of the week

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Second Stage in Liga de Ascenso. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 2 in the Liga de Ascenso took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of Lagomar to Larranaga 93-91 on Saturday evening. Larranaga looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Guard Mateo Cancela (180-2001) scored 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Argentinian Carlos Buemo (194-1996) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists during the contest. Forward Santiago Moglia (196-1989) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
Important game to mention about took place in Colon. Olimpia saved a 2-point derby victory on the road edging Colon 66-64 on Thursday evening. Forward Christian Pereira (194-1993) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Agustin Mendez supported him with 16 points. Even a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds by center Martin Tessadri (200-2001) did not help to save the game for Colon. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Verdirrojo and Marne. Verdirrojo smashed visiting Marne by 29 points 86-57. The best player for the winners was Federico Haller who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Lucas Silva produced 14 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: L.Borges lost to Atenas on the opponent's court 59-68. Bottom-ranked Capitol was outscored by Yale in a home game 67-97. Tabare recorded a loss to Montevideo on the road 91-86.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 29 points and 17 rebounds by Kwame Alexander of Tabare.



Colon - Olimpia 64-66

Important game to mention about took place in Colon. Olimpia saved a 2-point derby victory on the road edging Colon 66-64 on Thursday evening. Forward Christian Pereira (194-1993) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Agustin Mendez (180-2003) supported him with 16 points. Even a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds by center Martin Tessadri (200-2001) did not help to save the game for Colon. Pablo Gomez (200-2003) added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.

Verdirrojo - Marne 86-57

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Montevideo: Verdirrojo and Marne. Verdirrojo smashed visiting Marne by 29 points 86-57. Verdirrojo dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Marne's 26. They outrebounded Marne 50-33 including 38 on the defensive glass. Verdirrojo looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Federico Haller (200-1988) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Agustin Irastorza (-2005) chipped in 7 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Lucas Silva (197-2002) produced 14 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Jacob Ledoux (190-1997, college: UTPB, agency: 6th Man Basketball Agency) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Atenas - L.Borges 68-59

Atenas used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Montevideo 68-59 on Friday night. The best player for the winners was Ukrainian Andriy Grytsak (201-2000) who scored 16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Facundo Medina (190-1994) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Sergio Conceicao produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks and point guard Nicolas Pereyra (180-1999) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the guests.

Capitol - Yale 67-97

Rather predictable result in Montevideo where Yale smashed Capitol 97-67 on Friday. Yale outrebounded Capitol 40-26 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Yale shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 65.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Capitol's players. The best player for the winners was guard Martin Astramskas (190-2002) who scored 29 points (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!). Cuban center Arle Zaporta chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Yale players scored in double figures. Yale's coach Ernesto Dorrego felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (207-1990, college: Millersville) produced 25 points and naturalized Italian point guard Mateo Giano (186-2000) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts.

Montevideo used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Tabare 91-86 on Saturday night. Montevideo made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was point guard Fernando Martinez (173-1979) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Agustin Da Costa (191-1998) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Kwame Alexander (200-1990, college: CSUSB, agency: BIG) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds and point guard Federico Ambrosoni (183-1999) added 17 points and 4 steals respectively for the guests.
