LNB 2006 Finals - Game 5: Wallace makes Delfines the champions!!! - Nov. 30, 2006
J.R. Wallace (183-G-81) showed why he's made for great moments, and scored a three-point shot with two seconds left in the final quarter that gave Delfines de Miranda the victory, 96-94, over Macizos de Guayana (4-1) to regain the title of Liga Nacional de Baloncesto's champions in 2006, after being interrupted in 2005 by Guerreros de Caracas (now Lara), following a four-year reign in this league (2001-2004).
Wallace, who won the Liga Profesional crown earlier this year with Trotamundos de Carabobo and under the same head coach, argentinian Nestor Garcia, received a pass from Ludwing Irazabal (201-C/F-73) and in the same move threw the ball from the long distance range to kill a spectacular reaction protrayed by the visitors, who had recovered from an eight-point deficit at the beginning of the fourth period (72-64) and had just scored a two-point shot by Axier Sucre (198-F-78) to go ahead in the scoreboard (94-93).
"It was incredible they way were loosing this game, but we still had two seconds left in the clock. I had the space open and I took the shot. It's great to celebrate my second champions title in Venezuela this year", said Wallace following his amazing play.
Macizos, coached by Ivan Garcia , were a very tough rival for Delfines and maintained their level of play even without Kervin Bracho (204-F/C-78) and Lynwood Wade (195-G/F-72) in the court, two starters that got injured after Game 2 and could never come back. "There can't be two champions and that's why I take my hat off when it comes to Macizos", declared Richard Lugo (209-C-73), who's the major candidate for Most Valuable Player of the Finals.
