SLB Round 3: Spartans edge Supersonicos by two points

This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of Supersonicos (1-2) to Spartans (3-0) 82-80 on Thursday evening. The best player for the winners was international guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-95) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. International swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) who recorded 12 points and 5 assists. Supersonicos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Spartans is looking forward to face Condores (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Supersonicos will play against Centauros (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bucaneros delivered the third consecutive victory. This time they beat Gladiadores (1-2) 62-52. It was a good game for the former international center Miguel Marriaga (205-84) who led his team to a victory with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Jovanni Diaz contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. International power forward Eliezer Montano (206-91) answered with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Gladiadores. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaneros will play against Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gladiadores will play on the road against Diablos (#9) in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Maturin was also quite interesting. Diablos (1-2) played at the court of Cangrejeros (2-1). Cangrejeros managed to secure a 5-point victory 92-87 on Wednesday. It was a great evening for Jesus Ramos who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Angelo Cisneros with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cangrejeros will meet Llaneros (#7) in the next round. Diablos will play against Gladiadores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a quality performance for Luis Bethelmy who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Centauros' next round opponent will be Supersonicos (#8).

In the last two games of round 3 Llaneros defeated Brillantes in a road game 56-48. Winless Condores lost to undefeated Gigantes at home 52-62.

Cangrejeros - Diablos 92-87

The game in Maturin was also quite interesting. Diablos (1-2) played at the court of Cangrejeros (2-1). Cangrejeros managed to secure a 5-point victory 92-87 on Wednesday. Cangrejeros made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for swingman Jesus Ramos (187-97) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Amos Acosta (180-96) helped adding 14 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Angelo Cisneros (198-97) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Osman Alvarez (174-93) scored 14 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Five Cangrejeros and four Diablos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cangrejeros will meet Llaneros (#7) in the next round. Diablos will play against Gladiadores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Luis Duarte (190-94) accounted for 18 points for the winning side. Swingman Melvin Zambrano (193-95) came up with 23 points and 6 rebounds and center Peter Kvietek (205-77) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Condores in the defeat.
