Luis Duarte
26-year old swingman Luis Duarte (190-G/F-94) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Gigantes and receives a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 16.
He had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Centauros (#6, 6-8) 81-75. Gigantes is placed at 2nd position in Venezuelan league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Gigantes will need more victories to improve their 11-4 record. In the team's last game Duarte had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Gigantes and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Duarte has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (4th best: 17.7ppg) and averages solid 1.1bpg,3.2spg and 68.1% FGP.
Second best performed player last round was Deivis Ananguren (192-F-85) of Gladiadores. He is a forward in his first season at Gladiadores. In the last game Ananguren recorded impressive double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds. Of course he led Gladiadores to another comfortable win 75-62 over the higher-ranked Cocodrilos (#2, 12-3) being unquestionably team leader. Gladiadores' 5th position in Group A has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 7-8 record. Ananguren is one of the most experienced players at Gladiadores and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third place about best performers goes to forward Eduardo Diaz (205-PF-93) of Bucaneros (#7). Diaz scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was a key player of Bucaneros, leading his team to a 78-70 win against the higher-ranked Diablos (#4, 9-6). The chances of Bucaneros ranking at the top of Group A, however are very questionable as they have already lost 9 games, recording just six victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Diaz could help Bucaneros to bring them higher in the standings. Diaz has a very solid season. In 15 games in Venezuela he scored 12.7ppg. He also has 6.8rpg, 1.5bpg and FGP: 55.4%.
