Centauros-de-Portuguesa (SPB) landed 26-year old Dominican-Spanish 206cm power forward Jhonatan Araujo for the upcoming 2023 season of Venezuela's SPB. Araujo is the second foreigner player in the roster as USA Kris Jenkins signed here earlier.
It is actually his comeback to Margarita as he has played here before. He played recently at Parque Hostos in La Vega League in Dominican Republic.
Araujo represented Dominican Republic at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) five years ago. His team got to the Semifinals and his stats at that event were 5 games: Score-3 (18.0ppg), Reb-5 (9.0rpg), Blocks-4 (1.8bpg), FGP: 54.3%, 3PT: 36.8%, FT: 79.2%.
He is a very experienced player. Araujo has played also professionally in Argentina (Echague), Mexico (Lenadores, Correcaminos and Soles), Puerto Rico (Indios), Uruguay (Penarol), Spain (Coruna and Araberri) and Colombia (Storm). He played in the final of Dominican Republic LNB in 2017 and 2018.
Among many awards he was voted Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
Let's have closer look into Araujo's outlook: Started playing inside, thanks to his great rebounding skills at both sides of the court; now, he is well adapting to the PF position; he again excels at the offfensive rebound for timing and hustle; good scorer inside, has now developed a very good shot from the middle distance, and can hit some 3 pointer too; he's undersized, but very strong, and excels in dirty work; good defender inside, even versus higher opponents; he is also a superb ball-distributor, always looking for and finding the open man when double-teamed; his perimetral skills are further improving.
