SPB 2024 News - Cangrejeros de Monagas will become Pioneros del Avila

The upcoming 2024 season of Venezuela's Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto (SPB) will not only feature the debut of Tachira Basketball Club (formerly Taurinos de Aragua), but also that of Pioneros del Avila, a team based in Caracas which used to be known as Cangrejeros de Monagas (then based in Maturin).

The league's press department confirmed the news. Former Cangrejeros players such as Emiro Hernandez (188-PG-1994) and Luis Julio (201-C-1980) could be part of the roster and the organization is currently looking for a head coach. It'll be the fourth team based in Caracas, joining Cocodrilos, Broncos and Spartans.

Their home court will be Elio Estrada Paredes Arena at "El Helicoide", a base for the country's national police.
