Castillo number one in Venezuela SPB for round 38 (by Hoops Agents)

American-Dominican Rep. Forward Anyeuri Castillo (201-F-1997) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Pioneros Del Avila, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 38.
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while his team edged out Guaiqueries (#4, 15-9) 84-80. Pioneros maintains the 7th position in Venezuelan SPB. Pioneros is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-11 record. In the team's last game Castillo had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Pioneros and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Anyeuri Castillo averages just after two games 13.0ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Dominican Rep. Luis Martinez (196-G/F-2000) of Centauros de Bolivar. Martinez had a very good evening with 31 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Centauros lost that game 79-89 to the higher-ranked Heroes (#9, 10-14). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Centauros keeps 12th position. 19 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Centauros managed to get this year. Martinez is one of the most experienced players at Centauros and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Jared Cunningham (194-G-1991, agency: BIG) of Heroes De Falcon (#9). Cunningham scored 27 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. He was a key player of Heroes, leading his team to a 89-79 win against the lower-ranked Centauros (#12, 5-19). The chances of Heroes ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 14 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Cunningham could help Heroes to bring them higher in the standings. Cunningham has a great season in Venezuela. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.4ppg (6th best).
