Very predictable result in Florida where fourth ranked Penarol (11-5) outscored 15th ranked Platense (5-9) 86-65 on Thursday. Point guard Joaquin Valinotti (185-98) stepped up and scored 29 points and 6 steals for the winners and American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: FSU, agency: BIG) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Ignacio Varisco (202-1) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and Felipe Pais (183-90) scored 18 points. Four Platense players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Penarol have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Loser Platense keeps the fifteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Argentino. Penarol will meet Gimnasia (#4) in the next round.
