Regular Season Round 4: San Martin - Gimnasia 79-73

There was a minor upset when one of their biggest challengers Gimnasia (4-1) lost to top-ranked San Martin (3-0) in Corrientes 73-79 on Sunday. San Martin outrebounded Gimnasia 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by point guard Santiago Ferreyra (188-1997) who scored that evening 21 points and 8 rebounds and international Javier Saiz (206-1994) supported him with 17 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). San Martin's coach Diego Vadell used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 18 points by American center Gerard DeVaughn (205-1988, college: Stillman) did not help to save the game for Gimnasia. Cuban forward Joaquin Mensia (198-1997, agency: Pro Sports) added 18 points for lost side. Four Gimnasia players scored in double figures. San Martin have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Gimnasia dropped to the third position with one game lost. San Martin will meet Quimsa (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gimnasia will have a break next round.
