Regular Season Round 4: La Union - H.Americano 82-77

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked H.Americano (0-2) lost to top-ranked La Union (1-0) in Colon 77-82 on Monday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. La Union made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. The winners were led by forward Emilio Gimenez (196-1995) who scored that evening 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and center German Frencia (202-1988) supported him with 15 points and 9 rebounds. La Union's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds by American guard Grantham Gillard (193-1997, college: Arkansas St.) did not help to save the game for H.Americano. His fellow American import forward Damani Applewhite (203-1998, college: SC State) added 21 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. La Union left bottom position moving up to fourth place in Liga Argentina. Loser H.Americano still closes the standings with two games lost. La Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. H.Americano will play against Parque Sur (#13) in Concepcion de Urug. and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
