The most exciting game of round 7 in the La Liga took place in Olivia. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 15th ranked Independ.O. (2-4) to second ranked Gimnasia (6-2) 95-94 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Gerard DeVaughn (205-1988, college: Stillman) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. DeVaughn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Guard Lucio Reinaudi (185-1995) answered with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals and Salvador Giletto (195-1993) added 21 points in the effort for Independ.O.Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Independ.O.'s coach Martin Gonzalez tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gimnasia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 6-2 record having nine points less than leader Instituto. Newly promoted Independ.O. keeps the fifteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Regatas and Riachuelo LR. Gimnasia are looking forward to face Ferro (#7) in Buenos Aires in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Independ.O. will have a break next round.
