There was a surprise result when seventeenth ranked Sarmiento R. (3-17) won against higher ranked Montmartre (8-12) in Chaco 77-69 on Thursday. Guard Marcelo Martinez (187-1996) nailed 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and Andres Mariani (190-1987) accounted for 18 points and 5 assists. American forward Richard Granberry (203-1993, college: Virginia St.) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import swingman Kevin Ellis (193-1998) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Montmartre in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Sarmiento R. maintains seventeenth place with 3-17 record. Montmartre lost third consecutive game. Montmartre at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. Sarmiento R. will meet at home higher ranked GEPU (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Montmartre will play against Salta Basket (#15) and hope to secure a win.
