Basketball Champions League Americas

Regular Season Round 4: Quimsa - Sao Paulo 112-65

Date: December 16, 2023
First defeat of league's leader Brazilian Sao Paulo (0-1) against top-ranked Argentinian Quimsa (1-0) 112-65 was the most important game of the last round. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Quimsa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Sao Paulo's 28 and made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Sao Paulo 47-26 including a 38-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quimsa looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Sao Paulo's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American Brandon Robinson (196-1989, college: Clayton St.) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 8 rebounds. Bruno Sansimoni (194-1996) contributed with 12 points and 9 assists for the winners. Quimsa's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Tyrone Curnell (203-1988, college: Valdosta St.) replied with 16 points and his fellow American import guard Cordero Bennett (185-1988) added 11 points and 4 steals in the effort for Sao Paulo. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending Argentinian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Real Esteli. Sao Paulo at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Halc.Xalapa. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sesi Franca. Sao Paulo will play next round against strong Nacional trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Quimsa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
