No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked UNIFACISA (13-14) beat 14th ranked Fortaleza (7-20) in Paraiba 80-69 on Friday. UNIFACISA looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Andre Bresolin (195-1987) who led the winners and scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international Antonio Ferreira (200-1994) accounted for 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four UNIFACISA players scored in double figures. American forward Charles Williams (200-1996, college: Howard) came up with 17 points and the other American import swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls St.) added 14 points respectively for Fortaleza in the defeat. Fortaleza's coach Espiga Soares tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. UNIFACISA moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Sao Jose. Loser Fortaleza keeps the fourteenth position with 20 games lost. UNIFACISA will meet at home higher ranked Pinheiros (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fortaleza will play against Paschoalotto/Bauru (#7) and hope to secure a win.
