The game between closely ranked teams ended with 3rd ranked UNAB Santiago's (0-1) road loss to second ranked Gimnastico (2-1) in Vina del Mar 48-72 on Saturday. Gimnastico forced 21 UNAB Santiago turnovers. The winners were led by the former international forward Barbara Cousino (178-96) who scored that evening 21 points and the former international power forward Catalina Abuyeres (182-97) supported her with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Gimnastico players scored in double figures. Gimnastico's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by center Martinna Frings (-96) did not help to save the game for UNAB Santiago. Vanessa Medina (168-99, college: High School) added 15 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Gimnastico maintains second position with 2-1 record behind leader Infinito, which they share with New Crusaders and Conce. Loser UNAB Santiago still closes the standings with one game lost. Gimnastico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UNAB Santiago will play against Rancagua (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
