Regular Season Round 9: Sabios - Cafeteros 55-100

Very expected game when 11th ranked Sabios (1-8) were smashed by third ranked Cafeteros (8-1) in Manizales 100-55 on Wednesday. Cafeteros dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Sabios' 24. They outrebounded Sabios 48-26 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cafeteros looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Sabios' players. Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) nailed 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Venezuelan forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) accounted for 16 points and 8 rebounds. Five Cafeteros players scored in double figures. American guard Kylon Higgins (190-1993, college: Arkansas Tech) came up with 18 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Michael Colorado (182-1999) added 14 points respectively for Sabios in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Cafeteros. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Carrib.Storm. Sabios lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Cafeteros will meet at home Storm (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Sabios will play against Team Cali (#5) and hope to win that game.
