No shocking result in a game in Santo Domingo where fifth rankedCaneros (4-5) smashed 8th ranked Leones (2-6) 92-69 on Saturday. Caneros dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Leones ' 28. Caneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Marvin Smith (198-1995, college: UNCG) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Corey Boyd (206-1998) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Boyd is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Caneros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was naturalized American Angel Gerardo Suero (196-1989, college: Albany) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and American-Jamaican forward Romaine Thomas (206-1993, college: Clark Atlanta) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Caneros moved-up to fourth place. Leones at the other side keep the eighth position with six games lost.
