The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Santa Tecla (8-1) on the court of leader San Salvador on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by San Salvador 78-72. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Santa Tecla. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Santa Tecla outrebounded San Salvador 50-35 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Salvador made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Panamanian Alejandro Grant (199-1993) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and Dominican Darwin Cabrera added 21 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Santa Tecla. Five San Salvador and four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. San Salvador (9-0) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 9 victories in a row. Santa Tecla at the other side keeps the second position with one game lost. San Salvador are looking forward to face Cojute (#3) in Cojutepeque in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Santa Tecla will play at home against Santiagueno and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
