Regular Season Round 4: Algodoneras - Mieleras 75-78

Important game to mention about took place in Torreon. Top-ranked Mieleras (4-0) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 3rd ranked Algodoneras (0-4) 78-75 on Sunday evening. Mieleras dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Algodoneras' 32. The winners were led by American guard Jaterra Bonds (170-92, college: Florida) who scored that evening 31 points and 8 rebounds and the former international center Frida Gonzalez (184-92) supported her with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Even 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Brittany Byrd (175, college: UIC) did not help to save the game for Algodoneras. Jocelyn Gandara added 15 points for lost side. Four Algodoneras players scored in double figures. Algodoneras' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mieleras have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Lobas and Aztks. Newly promoted Algodoneras still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Barreteras and Marineras. Mieleras will play against Marineras (#5) in Puerto Vallarta in the next round. Algodoneras will play at home against Racers and hope to get finally their first victory.
