Regular Season Round 5: Barreteras - Mexcaltecas 78-64

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Mexcaltecas (3-2) against fifth ranked Barreteras (1-4) on Saturday night. Visiting Mexcaltecas were defeated by Barreteras in Zacatecas 78-64. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mexcaltecas' 24. Barreteras forced 19 Mexcaltecas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international power forward Rosaura Guardiola (180-91) stepped up and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-93, agency: DC Sports) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Barreteras' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Eunice Hernandez responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Romina Berumen (177-87) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Barreteras left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with Algodoneras and Racers. Loser Mexcaltecas keep the second position with two games lost. They share it with Escaramuzas. Barreteras will again meet at home league's second-placed Mexcaltecas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mexcaltecas will have a break next round.
