There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Venados (5-5) were defeated on the road by seventh ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (2-8) 79-72 on Tuesday. Caballeros de Culiacan forced 20 Venados turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 10 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. Sam Daniel (203-1996, college: Florida Tech) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Center Alex Hicks (203-1996, college: Troy) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Davin White (185-1981, college: CSUN) scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Venados players scored in double figures. Venados' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains seventh place with 2-8 record, which they share with Guaymas. Loser Venados keep the fifth position with five games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Venados will play against Rayos de Hermosillo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
