Regular Season Round 7: Astros - Los Mochis 94-79

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Astros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Astros defeated leader Pioneros Los Mochis in Guadalajara 94-79. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Pioneros Los Mochis outrebounded Astros 41-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Pioneros Los Mochis' players. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized American guard Karim Rodriguez (196-1988) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 9 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American Lagerald Vick (196-1997, college: Kansas) accounted for 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Astros players scored in double figures. Swiss point guard Jordan Stevens (182-1994, college: Midwestern St.) came up with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American swingman Wayne Runnels (198-1989, college: Creighton) added 14 points respectively for Pioneros Los Mochis in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Pioneros Los Mochis at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Hermosillo. Pioneros Los Mochis will play next round against strong Rayos de Hermosillo trying to get back on the winning streak. Astros will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys at home.
