Regular Season Round 19: Barreteras - Quetzales 73-62

There was an upset in Guadalupe where higher ranked Quetzales (6-9) were defeated by eleventh ranked Barreteras (6-11) 73-62 on Saturday. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Quetzales' 26. They outrebounded Quetzales 39-22 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Barreteras looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Quetzales' players. It was a great evening for Monica Moguel who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Megan Garcia (173, agency: Gamble Sports Management) helped adding 8 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Barreteras' coach Alejandro Rivera used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-1987) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and American point guard Aniese Palmore (165-1994, college: UMW) scored 13 points. Barreteras moved-up to ninth place. Loser Quetzales keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Barreteras will again meet at home higher ranked Quetzales (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quetzales will have a break next round.
