The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Phoenix (3-16) in Guadalupe on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by ninth ranked Barreteras (10-12) 95-41. Barreteras dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 28. Barreteras forced 25 Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 48-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Phoenix's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Barreteras made 10 blocks. American guard Megan Garcia (173, agency: Gamble Sports Management) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Alexis Johnson (183, college: Virginia Union) chipped in 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 blocks during the contest. Four Barreteras players scored in double figures. Barreteras' coach Alejandro Rivera felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Arleth Ortega responded with 9 points and 9 rebounds and Thalia Perez scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Barreteras have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 10-12 record. Phoenix lost twelfth consecutive game. They still keep top place with 16 games lost. Barreteras are looking forward to face Las Plebes (#11) in the next round. Phoenix will have a break next round.
