Regular Season Round 2: Mazatlan - Astros 99-102

Everything went according to plan when Astros edged Venados in Mazatlan 102-99 on Wednesday. Astros dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Venados' 38. They outrebounded Venados 37-22 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Astros especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American players dominated the game. Forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) notched 24 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Lagerald Vick (196-1997, college: Kansas) supported him with 19 points and 4 assists. Even 24 points and 4 assists by guard Jalek Felton (190-1998, college: UNC) did not help to save the game for Venados. Point guard Jay-R Strowbridge (183-1988, college: Oregon, agency: Interperformances) added 20 points and 6 assists for the hosts. Five Astros and four Venados players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Astros will meet at home Halcones de Ciudad Obregon in the next round where they are favorite. Venados will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and hope to win that game.
