Very important is a road loss of third ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (15-15) against fifth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (15-15) on Friday night. Visiting Caballeros de Culiacan was crushed by Tijuana Zonkeys in Tijuana 94-74. Tijuana Zonkeys dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Caballeros de Culiacan's 44. They outrebounded Caballeros de Culiacan 37-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Johnny Hughes III (203-1997, college: UIW) who recorded 19 points and guard Teyvion Kirk (193-1999, college: UIC) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Culiacan. Caballeros de Culiacan lost their third game in a row. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet Pioneros Los Mochis (#6) on the road in the next round. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and hope to secure a win.
