There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Caballeros de Culiacan (15-15) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (15-15) 84-79 on Saturday. Tijuana Zonkeys looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Joshua Webster (190-1997, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. The former international power forward Edgar Garibay (208-1990, college: LBSU) chipped in 25 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) who recorded 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Johnny Hughes III (203-1997, college: UIW) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Culiacan. Caballeros de Culiacan lost their third game in a row. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet Pioneros Los Mochis (#6) on the road in the next round. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and hope to secure a win.
