Regular Season Round 5: Adelitas - Halcones 97-63
Date: May 28, 2023
Very expected game when 9th ranked Halcones (3-7) were smashed by second ranked Adelitas (7-3) in Chihuahua 97-63 on Sunday. Adelitas made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Adelitas outrebounded Halcones 45-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Halcones' players. American center Danielle Adams (185-1989, college: Texas A&M) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winning side and her fellow American import guard Kristen Spolyar (178-1997, college: Butler) accounted for 20 points. Four Adelitas players scored in double figures. American-Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo (188-1996, college: TCU) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican guard Brianna Jones (177-1997, college: Georgetown, agency: Shark Sports Management) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Halcones in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Adelitas. Despite that victory Adelitas went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Astros. Loser Halcones dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Adelitas will meet Plateras (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Halcones will play against Abejas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
