There was a small surprise when second rankedMineras (10-4) won against their close opponent Mieleras (10-2) in Guanajuato 79-70 on Wednesday. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Mineras made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Mineras outrebounded Mieleras 49-27 including a 38-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Adriana Chavez (170, college: St.Thomas, TX) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and the former international guard Paola Estrada (172-1993, agency: DC Sports) supported her with 5 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 17 points by Venezuelan-Cuban point guard Barbara Velasquez (168-2002) did not help to save the game for Mieleras . The former international point guard Paola Beltran (164-1994) added 12 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Mieleras' coach Jose Villegas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mineras have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-4 record having just two point less than leader Mieleras. Defending champion Mieleras still keep top place with two games lost.
