Regular Season Round 5: Occidentales - Leon 80-94

Leon can celebrate their first win this season after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Chinandega, where they defeated Occidentales (1-5) 94-80 on Thursday. Leon forced 19 Occidentales turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Occidentales' players. Guard Pablo Rivas stepped up with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winners and American power forward Zacarry Douglas (203-1995, college: NCCU) chipped in 20 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Leon's coach Jose Gomez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds and guard Deikel Sanchez produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Occidentales players scored in double figures. Leon left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Occidentales. Leon will meet at home higher ranked Caribbean Coast (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Occidentales will have a break next round.
