Not a big story in a game in Arecibo where 6th ranked Brujos (3-7) were outplayed by third ranked Capitanes (7-5) 106-67 on Sunday. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 34 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Brujos 41-27 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Dominican Victor Liz (193-1986) scored 16 points to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Ben McCauley (206-1986, college: NC State) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and the former international forward Derek Reese (203-1993, college: Tennessee) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains third position with 7-5 record having just two point less than leader Quebradillas. Loser Brujos keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Capitanes will meet at home Indios (#5) in the next round. Brujos will play against the league's leader Piratas and hope to secure a win.
