No shocking result in a game in Juana Diaz where third ranked Leones (9-5) smashed 5th ranked Grises (5-7) 99-80 on Monday. Leones shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Leones made 7 blocks. Guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) stepped up and scored 13 points and 7 assists for the winners and guard Ismael Cruz (190-2001, college: Indian Hills) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Leones players scored in double figures. At the losing side point guard Luis Rivera (185-1997, college: Miami Dade CC) responded with 18 points and 4 assists and American-Mexican center Daniel Amigo (208-1995, college: Denver) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones maintains third place with 9-5 record behind leader Quebradillas. Grises lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Leones will meet Atleticos (#4) in the next round. Grises will play against Indios in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
