Regular Season Round 10: Carolina - Lares 72-52
Date: November 8, 2022
There was no surprise in Carolina where 6th ranked Lares (4-7) were crushed by fourth ranked Gigantes (4-6) 72-52 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Gigantes. Lares managed to win second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lares to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Gigantes dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lares' 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Teana Muldrow (188-1995, college: WVU) scored 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and international guard Tayra Melendez (183-1993, college: URI) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Juicy Landrum (173, college: Baylor) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and her fellow American import center Akela Maize (196-1996, college: NC State) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Gigantes went down to fifth position due to points difference. Newly promoted Lares stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Gigantes will meet higher ranked Montaneras (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Lares will play against Cangrejeras in Santurce and hope to secure a win.
