Regular Season Round 14: Bayamon - Santurce 85-67
Date: April 18, 2023
An interesting game for Vaqueros (9-3) which hosted in Bayamon 4th ranked Cangrejeros (5-6). First ranked Vaqueros had an easy win 85-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cangrejeros. Vaqueros forced 19 Cangrejeros turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Cangrejeros' players. American forward Braxton Key (203-1997, college: Virginia) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and the former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-1989, college: NC State) supported him with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 12 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists by American point guard David Stockton (180-1991, college: Gonzaga) did not help to save the game for Cangrejeros. The former international forward Angel Matias (194-1992, college: Georgia South) added 15 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-3 record. Loser Cangrejeros keep the fourth place with six games lost. Vaqueros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cangrejeros will play against Osos (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
