Regular Season Round 32: Bayamon - Ponce 84-72

Very expected game when 6th ranked Leones (8-19) lost to first ranked Vaqueros (17-10) in Bayamon 72-84 on Thursday. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Leones' 30. They outrebounded Leones 42-28 including 33 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by the former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) who scored that evening 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Javier Gonzalez (185-1989, college: NC State) supported him with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Gonzalez is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Jamil Wilson (201-1990, college: Marquette) did not help to save the game for Leones. Guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) added 16 points for the guests. Four Vaqueros and five Leones players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-10 record. Leones lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 19 games lost. Vaqueros will meet at home league's second-placed Mets in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leones will play against Indios (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
