Regular Season Round 40: Mayaguez - Manati 118-86
Date: June 11, 2023
Rather expected game when 6th ranked Osos (11-23) were smashed by fourth ranked Indios (16-19) in Mayaguez 118-86 on Sunday. Indios dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Osos' 32. They outrebounded Osos 44-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Indios looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Osos' players. The winners were led by American forward DJ Hogg (203-1996, college: Texas A&M) who scored that evening 29 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international guard Jorge Pacheco-Ortiz (188-1998, college: Liberty) supported him with 25 points and 6 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Indios' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 10 points and 9 rebounds by the former international forward Derek Reese (203-1993, college: Tennessee) did not help to save the game for Osos. The former international Christopher Gaston (201-1989, college: Fordham) added 14 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Indios maintains fourth position with 16-19 record. Osos lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 23 games lost. Indios will meet at home Grises (#6) in the next round. Osos will play against the league's second-placed Atleticos in San German and hope to secure a win.
