Regular Season Round 5: Morovis - Hatillo 77-88

There was no surprise in Morovis where bottom-ranked Montaneras (0-6) were defeated by fourth ranked Hatillo (3-2) 88-77 on Friday. Hatillo made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Hatillo outrebounded Montaneras 38-27 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Dariauna Lewis (185-2000, college: Syracuse, agency: Agency) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and her fellow American import guard Jaelynn Penn (178-1998, college: UCLA) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds. Four Hatillo players scored in double figures. American guard Katie Villarini (165, college: Buffalo St.) responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-1986) scored 18 points and 7 assists. Hatillo maintains fourth place with 3-2 record, which they share with Santurce. Loser Montaneras still closes the standings with six games lost. Hatillo will meet higher ranked Gigantes (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Montaneras will have a break next round.
