Top rankedCapitanes (11-3) recorded its third loss in Mayaguez on Tuesday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked Indios (9-6) 78-76 . It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Mayaguez forced 20 Arecibo turnovers and had a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Jorge Pacheco (188-1998, college: Liberty) who scored 22 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Point guard Matthew Lee (183-1999, college: Missouri St.) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard David Stockton (180-1991, college: Gonzaga) who recorded 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international Alfonso Plummer (185-1997, college: Illinois) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Indios have a solid series of three victories in a row. Mayaguez maintains second place with 9-6 record having just one point less than leader Caguas. Arecibo at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost.
