We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Carolina where one of their biggest challengersCriollos (18-13) were rolled over by fourth ranked Gigantes (14-14) 114-86 on Monday. Carolina dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Criollos ' 32. Carolina looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Caguas ' players. American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American-Dominican forward JJ Romer (206-1999, college: A&M-Commerce) chipped in 17 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Guard Jose Placer (185-2000, college: S.Florida) responded with 15 points and Dominican forward Richard Nunez (206-2000, college: Limestone) scored 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 14-14 record. Loser Criollos keep the third place with 13 games lost.
