Very expected game in Montevideo where 11th ranked Urupan (4-9) was edged by fifth ranked Penarol (8-5) 90-87 on Thursday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Strangely Urupan outrebounded Penarol 45-33 including 30 on the defensive glass. American power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Juan Zanotta (185-1995) chipped in 11 points and 10 assists during the contest. Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (206-1993, college: UW-Parkside) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Eric Ferguson (203-1989, college: Georgia South) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Five Penarol and four Urupan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Penarol moved-up to third place, which they share with Aguada and Hebraica. Loser Urupan dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Penarol's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Hebraica.
