Regular Season Round 7: Cordon - Urunday 40-65

Bottom-rankedCordon (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 65-40 loss to seventh ranked Urunday (3-3) in Montevideo on Sunday evening. They held Cordon to an opponent 21.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 30.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Urunday forced 41 Cordon turnovers. Strangely Cordon outrebounded Urunday 52-40 including 37 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Guard Antonella Ugolini (170-2002) helped adding 12 points, 5 assists and 8 steals. At the losing side forward Milagros Rivero (-2003) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds and forward Victoria Cardone (160-1994) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Urunday moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Cordon still closes the standings with six games lost.
