Rather predictable result when first ranked Gladiadores (18-5) edged 3rd ranked Gigantes (16-7) in Puerto Ordaz 79-78 on Thursday. Strangely Gigantes outrebounded Gladiadores 46-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American guard Sheldon Mac (196-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Slash Sports) who scored that evening 32 points and international point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986, agency: Pro Sports) supported him with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 6 points and 16 rebounds by American center Roquez Johnson (201-1992, college: MSU, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. His fellow American import guard Tony Hicks (186-1994, college: Louisville, agency: GoEmpire Group) added 15 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Gladiadores have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 18-5 record. Loser Gigantes keep the third place with seven games lost. Gladiadores' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Spartans.
